One my favorite modern directors (John Hyams) co-produces this series and directed some of the episodes. I fully admit the pilot is bad - very rough around the edges (it feels like The Asylum had a heavy hand in editing and writing that one). However, episodes 2 and 3 have turned it into one of my favorite things on TV. Gory, funny, stylish, well-paced (so far it hasn't gone the stupid TV route of dragging out micro-narratives), and full of likeable characters that I genuinely don't want to die, which instantly makes it more intense and involving than The Walking Dead. What also makes it better than TWD is that it doesn't think it's above its genre - it embraces levity and zombie carnage and integrates the characters and their relationships into that world without pretentiously losing sight of the fact this is a zombie apocalypse series. It also has an interesting Neo-Western angle going on, and so far seems free of TWD's dumb misogyny (that series naively translates the zombie apocalypse sending mankind back to a primitive age into retrograde gender roles, such as women washing clothes and making food; ZN doesn't condescend to the female characters like that).

So, anyway, I am a big fan of this show.

So far, this just keeps getting better with each episode. It corrects so much of what I don't like about other TV dramas right now. I'm kind of in love with this show.

Damn, the last episode was really great. John Hyams is the man. This is quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite TV shows.

The latest episode was shot in 2.35:1. I've never seen a TV show do that before. It's like they're going out of their way to make me love this show even more.

I watched the premiere and thought 'oh no..not more zombies'...i'll give it a few episodes but i'm over zombies/vampires n all that crap.

The premiere is really bad. I almost stopped watching after that. But I liked episode 2, and episode 3 officially hooked me. But, yeah, it's definitely a zombie show.

Finally got around to watching the pilot of this last night - awful!

So how does everyone feel about the pilot episode of this show?

So LV hated this pilot but kept watching and now loves the show. But when numerous people say that the pilot for Hannibal was shit but the show got really, really, good, he blew us off. :/

Am I the only one that enjoyed Hannibal the whole way through? What was so bad about the pilot?

Beats me - I thought the entire two seasons were pretty great right from the begining

I know no one else cares about this, but I just feel the urge to say that the season finale of this show was probably the best hour of TV I've seen in years.

This is on demand and I'm going to start watching it.
