In this thread, we list bands whose hits are generally the only songs we enjoy, and then call each other idiots for not delving further into those bands amazing catalogs.

REM (brutal nonhits)
Alice in Chains (plus a couple)
Prince (sorry Lament)
Soundgarden

Kyuss has some good deep cuts. Kaius should be cut deeply.

I think the average listener has only heard about eight Talking Head songs and is quite good with that. I'd say this is evidenced by their lack of any really high selling album.

Same could be said for Bob Marley, the Eagles, Red Hot Chili Peppers. When your greatest hits albums are your biggest selling albums by far, the people have spoken.

While I have all of AIC's albums, if I could only listen to their GH I don't think I'd be missing out. The same is basically true of all those guys except REM.

Not the first three albums, at least.

That's because they were a cult favorite, and by the time they made it really big, their albums weren't good anymore (some would say). Their big breakthrough album was not of a Nevermind/Ten quality....those days had already long passed. Their career trajectory is somewhat similar to Radiohead, a band that emulated them a lot. "Psycho Killer" was their "Creep". "Remain In Light" was their "Kid A". Just about everything in between is of superb quality, including all the album tracks.

I have been really digging the second half of "Fear of Music" lately -- "Animals" is probably one of the funniest song lyrics in pop history.
