Maybe not. But this will be a good home for the comeback. When it happens.

They're good. I saw em live. Never thought that'd happen.

I heard...so far the locations leave a lot to be desired. But when I saw Mangum live I was blown away. Voice and acoustic guitar completely command the whole room.

Word.

And I was lucky enough to see a few songs with the whole band. I will absolutely see NMH if they hit up NYC. Unreal.

i heard their record once and didn't really care for it. It's always been on my 'I should give this a second listen' list

It's going to be tough to carve out 45 minutes with a baby in the house, but you should really do it. Don't do it on computer speakers either. With the way you love lyrics, Aeroplane would really hit you if you give it another shot.

It definitely takes multiple listens.

If you really try to break into all the layers of metaphors then you start to see how truly genius of a lyrical work this album is...how a line can convey 3 separate metaphors and be so cleverly put blows my mind. He tries to mislead with some strange pubescent sexual allusion, which turns into meaning the season is spring while locked away in an attic, which turns into some painful experience actually felt by Mangum while he's reading the Diary of Anne Frank...the second two of which are not sexual at all. And he goes back and forth between seeing the scene from afar, from being taken into the scene as the narrator or as a protagonist in the book himself, to lines from the book taking him into his own thoughts...it's hard to keep track of which time he's in while the album is playing. And it's all so seamless.

Christ, Stip, they have two records. Show some respect.

And you should pour yourself into Aeroplane for probably 10 months before even looking to explore their first one.

I listened to "In the Airplane..." once. It was nice, I guess.

Shows up here to condescend but not in the AIC thread when I needed you to say Rooster and Got Me Wrong are pop songs.

On Avery Island didn't really click for me until after I saw Mangum live. Seeing him do those songs solo made them pop and sizzle in a new way. They didn't make as much sense to me until then.

Aeroplane is vastly superior, sure. But there's a lot to love about Avery as well.
