Was released by D'Angelo three days ago. Wow, this is phenomenal.

I have not been able to get out and pick this up yet. I'm pretty thrilled it's finally out though.

i've listened to a couple of tracks online and i am making it an imminent goal to get this album. i really like what i've heard.

Jorge played a song for me in chat last night. Promptly downloaded album.

So, can we maybe revise the thread title and try to show some love to what might be the best record of the year? This album is outstanding.

Ain't That Easy is so good. Those hard snaps. The bass line. The Stevie-esque vocals.

Then 1000 Deaths hits and you forget all about it.

Hard to pick favorites yet, but side A is a real beast.

Can someone tell me,

does it have ample funk in the trunk?

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I'm going to go ahead and say Black Messiah is forcing my mind to compare it to the epic run of Stevie Wonder albums from the 70s. The output isn't comparable, but the sound is so obviously either a tribute or direct influence that I can't look past it. The instrumentation, vocals, and the living spaces within the songs are like walks through an alternate universe version of Music of my Mind, or maybe The lost tracks of Songs in the Key of Life. I mean this all in the most respectful way, to both artists.

I love when a record is both a fast burner and a fine wine. It clicked right away, but every song is still blossoming and maturing.

This is an instant classic, folks.
