Alice Cooper

Post by mastaflatch »

When I was a teen, Alice Cooper was a solo artist (Vincent Furnier, in fact) that sang hair metal ditties such as Poison (the song) and was more or less an elderly with hairspray, an ugly face and exposure.
Alice Cooper, I learned later on, was in fact a band that did not suck. They were psychedelic first, albeit hard-rocking at it, thanks to their two guitarists who ended up in Lou Reed's band circa Rock and Roll Animal. By 1972, the band released Billion Dollar Babies which went number 1 both in the US and the UK thanks to a handful of goregeous singles. It was produced, like several of their output of the time, by Bob Ezrin, who would later co-produce The Wall.
Anyway, I thought it could be a nice journey discovering this band with you, RM. Apart from School's Out and No More Mr. Nice Guy, are you aware of this band?

Here are the first songs off their first album, Pretties For You, released in 1969.

Alice Cooper hung with Pink Floyd on the west coast in late 67 and this song testifies some kind of obvious influence:

not that i actually have much memory of alice cooper as a band (I was only about 9 in 1975)
but these posts remind me of my reaction to sitting down and actually listening to led zeppelin - who knew these guys were actually, uh, musicians? not me in the 80s, for sure. wasn't until the 90s that i found i liked them and they didn't, in fact, suck.

will be listening to the tracks posted here, btw. thanks
