Whose death would end the band?

You'd have to think if Eddie dies---No more Pearl Jam, right?
But if Matt died---Find another drummer and dedicate a song to him on the next album, right?
What about Stone? Jeff? Mike? I'd guess that if any one of them kicked it---Pearl Jam would be done.
This is all assuming that the band called Pearl Jam is not already over.

I think they could get by without Mike. It would certainly change things, but I think Stone could make it work.

I think if any of them died they'd all "retire" from PJ, do their own thing for 5-10 years, then reunite for the reunion tour cash in. If Ed dies they will be done for good.

Maybe you're their 'retirement package'. (As long as they make it look like an accident.)

Except Boom, any of them would mean the end. And in a way, I bet it would be a huge relief for everyone else, except Mccready. He still wants to Pearl Jam.

It sure would be a relief to no longer have to be in a hugely successful band that releases well received records as infrequently as they feel like, play shows for tens of thousands of people, and still be able to maintain a very prolific solo career. I'm amazed more of them aren't on suicide watch.

I'm gonna be cynical and say they'd go the postleadsingerdeathmoneygrab route. They'd be touring with a 1992 Ed soundalike within 2 years after his death selling it as a tribute to Vedder. And Alive would go on to have yet another meaning. Biopic portraying him as the voice of a generation it's almost certain - of course the 1st 25 minutes would be about MLB and the rising from the ashes thing.
Also No Code deluxe edition with about 3 versions of Off He Goes is very likely to happen.

My opinion mirrors Argo's.

This.
Although if Ed dies, I bet the rest do something together at some point, call it something different.
Any of the others, PJ reunion in 2025 or 2030 with some string of special guest stars picking up the guitar or bass or drums or whichever piece is missing

Matt is replaceable. Anyone else's death would end the band (excluding Boom, he doesn't count).
This is a personal opinion of mine. If they had anyone else up there in the place of Mike, Ed, Stone, or Jeff....to me that just isn't Pearl Jam anymore and I probably would stop attending shows if they continued to bill themselves as Pearl Jam.

i just don't think pearl jam could survive the loss of matt cameron's song-writing skills. i would want for them to lay down and retire the pearl jam mantle if that visionary were to pass away.

Ok, so that covers the band members themselves. Who would have to die outside the band for the band to end? Some fans--a la Roskilde? Would that require another nine fans, or would just one be enough?
We've basically agreed that Eddie's death would end the band, but not Matt's. What about their respective offspring?
Discuss.

Well you're in luck! Pearl Jam just made a totally gay album filled with boring crap, and no Matt songs in sight. It's perfect for fans like you who have no discernible taste. Bon apetit!
