Josh Brolin replaces Clive Owen in “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”
Image

We probably should have seen this news coming. After months of silence, it’s been confirmed that Clive Owen won’t be reprising his role in “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” — but at least he’s being replaced by someone pretty exciting.

It’s been confirmed that Josh Brolin will play the character of Dwight in the upcoming movie. This comes hot off the news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Christopher Meloni have also taken roles in the movie.

“In ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,’ Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell,” a press release explains of the recasting. “Chronologically, this story takes place prior to ‘The Big Fat Kill’ (featured in the film ‘Frank Miller’s Sin City’) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.”

Because this is a prequel of sorts, many of the actors from the first “Sin City” are reprising their roles. Those who are returning for the film include Mickey Rourke, Jamie King, Rosario Dawson and Jessica Alba. They’re joined by Jamie Chung, Jaime King and Dennis Haysbert. “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” is due out on October 4.

Exclusive 'Sin City' Details: Bruce Willis Will Return
Image
Director Robert Rodriguez confirms to MTV News: 'Bruce is back, you'll be seeing him.'

As droves of new faces flock towards desolate Basin City, there are still some tired old veterans floating around the deadly town — like Detective Hartigan.

At the Sundance Film Festival, "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" co-director Robert Rodriguez confirmed to MTV News that Bruce Willis is reprising his role as the ill-fated cop Hartigan in the upcoming sequel.

"Bruce is back, you'll be seeing him," was all he would confirm at the festival, where he was honoring the 20 year anniversary of "El Mariachi."

Willis' return wasn't the only "Sin City" topic we asked him about, and the filmmaker was eager to let us know that the sequel is very much on track. Here's a taste of what he told us:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in for a world of hurt. Rodriguez revealed that the "Dark Knight Rises" actor plays "a very cocky gambler who comes in and tries to beat the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game" in a story called "The Long, Bad Night." As the title implies, things go very badly very quickly for JGL's character. "You have to start with someone very likable so that you're like, 'No! Not him, not him,'" Rodriguez teased of what's to come.

A lot has been shot. Jaime King recently told MTV that her work was already finished on the "Sin City" sequel. The same can be said for Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven and Ray Liotta, who were just cast in the film this week but have already completed shooting. As for who they'll play: "There are some characters from the book [in the mix]," the director said. "Fans will be surprised."

A lot hasn't been shot. "The only story we've shot out [completely] is one of the intro [stories]. That's completely done," said Rodriguez. But the main three stories that will make up "A Dame to Kill For" are being shot in "bits and pieces, as actors become available." In other words, there's much more work to go.

The "Dame" is still not cast. Angelina Jolie has long been rumored for the pivotal role of Ava Lord, but that casting has yet to pan out — because Rodriguez, Frank Miller and the rest of the "Sin City" team have yet to settle on a star. "We have some choices in mind, but we haven't finalized the casting," said Rodriguez. "She doesn't shoot for a couple of weeks."

Eva Green To Play Lead Dame of 'Sin City 2'

January 29, 2013

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's search for a female lead to lustfully desaturate has finally ended.

After months of searching for someone to replace the long-rumored Angelina Jolie, they've reportedly settled on Casino Royale's Eva Green to star in the currently in-production Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. She'll play Ava Lord, the femme fatale at the center of the titular story, which involves Josh Brolin's Dwight getting framed for murder. It may also involve some parts where everything is black & white, except Eva Green has got these bright red lips, because her lips are that sexy. Let's just assume as much.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower actress Julia Garner has also joined the cast, to appear opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Johnny as--what else, except maybe a prostitute?--a stripper.

'Sin City: A Dame To Kill For' Delayed Nearly a Year
June 18, 2013 /

Robert Rodriguez's long-delayed Sin City sequel, A Dame To Kill For, is giving you even more time to finally just read the comics. ComingSoon reports the film has been pushed back nearly a year, moving from its early October release date to August 22 of next year. No reason was given for the move, but it may well have something to do with Rodriguez's Machete Kills already opening this fall. A season can only hold so many digitally-stylized babes and weathered faces.

Also, as recently reported, the lead bad guy this time around will be Stacy Keach. [urlhttp://www.variety.com/article/VR1118065656/]Variety[/url] reporting Keach will play Wallenquist, a mob boss Sin City creator Frank has called "pure evil" and "the one man who can't be redeemed in Sin City."

That name order very effectively illustrates Bruce Willis's value relative to Powers Boothe

A poster for the Sin City sequel A Dame To Kill For has been banned by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for showing one of its stars Eva Green holding a gun and looking sultry in a revealing thin gown. Of particular concern to the conservative watchdog was the “curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.”

:haha:
