I found this band Golden Sun a few months ago. The entire EP is pretty good but check out "Bonneville" and "Wind River". The album is free.

I also like Boxed Wine - this EP is free too.

What have you guys found there?

Bandcamp is great. Theres an phone app, Bandcamper, that lets you bookmark bands' pages.

Here are a few I favorited. Most of these bands all put out great stuff in 2012.

Jeez. That's a lot to go through. Believe it or not, seeing the album art actually makes a difference whether I'll click on the band. I don't get it. Can you recommend 2 or 3 bands you would try to get one of your friends to listen to? Just looking for something new...

Absolutely. Don't judge the quick turnaround, I just popped on to add some things to the above list. But I'll whittle it down to three for you.

Super catchy poppy punk record from Seattle

I've been on pretty serious Aussie kick for the past year or so. I should probably do a thread for it, but I'm a lazy man. This is a pretty good one. Equal parts, pop, psych, and down under weridness.

I've listened to this everyday for the past three months.

Yeah I use it but it's a bit sketchy, doesn't let you search for bands unless you type the exact name, can't browse by tags etc. Although bandcamp itself desperately needs a better search/browse feature.
I've listened to that one last year after someone posted about it here (must have been you, I guess), that stuff isn't really what I enjoy but it was not bad from what I remember.
A friend made me listen to that one, I do like its shitty VU-ish sound but it gets a bit tiresome after a few tracks.

Well like I said it's hard (for me) to give recs if I don't know what kind of stuff you want to hear, but I'll try to give you some of the more straightforward/accessible stuff (meaning I'll skip the metal and the instrumental).

bandcamp is trying to get into the social game by allowing fans to create a profile, share, etc

http://blog.bandcamp.com/2013/01/10/bandcamp-for-fans/

the caveat is that you need to actually buy stuff on there to be able to sign up. though i think downloading for $0 counts as a purchase. i signed up for an account just to give it a go.
So how does one get a Bandcamp fan account?

It’s easy: buy something and we invite you. If you’ve already made purchases through Bandcamp, visit http://bandcamp.com/fans and follow the instructions there.

that would be a misstep if they don't count. the idea is to drive more sales for the bands so getting a user into the system with a freebie download would have them in their network. i figured you would have made a lot of bandcamp purchases. i've only made a couple i guess. i figured it was more.

I don't buy digital. If I really like something I'm gonna buy the record. But yeah it would definitely be wise to let as many people as possible into the system, especially since we alread give our e-mail adress when we "buy" free albums. Make these accounts have less features so they have an incentive to buy something for real.

I'm the same way. The few bandcamp purchases i have made were for CD's with a digital download.

I'm signed up, how do I find people. And more importantly, this needs to be linked to last.fm

On album pages you can see who else bought the album (listed under "Supported by"), click on their profile, see what other music they bought etc. Apparently you can also "follow" people so I guess that lets you know when they buy something.

I found you 8-)

No idea.

I just figure this is where we post good bands that use bandcamp.

That's what I figured too.

I might as well post some more while I'm here:
