Army Reserve has good music but I agree that it's a song that gets condensed into a standard pop song format when it needed more room to breath and meander. And I've never liked the chorus. The lyrics are a bit obvious, but some nice moments in there. The 'she tells herself and everyone else...' moment is genuinely affecting.

There aren't many songs in the catalog like Cold Confession, which is a shame, because it's excellent. Eddie rarely sounds this lost and vulnerable without feeling detached (which is what takes away from an otherwise very similar song like of the girl). I love the way the song is kind of feeling its way along as it goes, which matches the drifting nature of the very solid lyrics.

Cold Confession, easily.

I haven't listened to CC in probably four or five months. I couldn't hum it for you. I know I really dig the song and I know I hate that it didn't make the album. But the fact that after a little break from the song I'm unable to quote a lyric, or hum the melody, or tell you anything about the song other than Ed's voice cracks a lot (and it is a powerful vocal performance) has to mean something.

Abstain. Don't know the first and really dislike the second.

Army Reserve

Cold Confession is nice to have, and better than many tracks in the last decade, but still not quite a fully realized tune. Army Reserve is vastly underrated, and could be so much more

I hate Army Reserve. Pretty bland and forgettable by my measure.

Army reserve is amazing. Cold Confession is pretty good but this is not even close.

I really like both of these. I went with AR, but CC could get me to reconsider.

Cold Confession is great. But Army Reserve has always been among the few shining gems on self titled, and my opinion of it has only grown with time.

Mine too -- in a weird way I feel like a lot of those anti-war songs feel a lot clearer and a lot more poignant a number of years after the fact, where at the time they tend to feel -- while not remotely unjustified -- kind of reactionary and flippant, obscuring some of the artistry inherent to them. "Army Reserve" is a complex, compassionate song that hits right on point -- and again, I'd love to hear them make some improv out of the ending.

"Cold Confession" is awesome but for some reason my distant opinion of it is always greater than my urge to actually listen to it.

For me, a lot of that lack of desire stems from the fact that all we have is a very lossy rip.

People that leak this shit really need to rip them better.

OK. I gave Army Reserve a listen.

Nope.

I'm starting to fear that I don't like Matt Cameron's drumming.

I love both Matt Cameron's drumming and his songwriting but I don't think his style works in Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam haven't made an album I love since Matt joined and I don't think they can while he remains in the band.

Bummer.

You think its really all on the drummer though?
