Division 1 Round 4al: Black vs. Porch

The final chorus in "Porch" is really cool but I don't care about the jam section and I've always felt like it needs another verse. "Black" feels like the more complete song, so I am voting for it.

Vote for Porch, which is top 5, though Black is still absurdly good.

the transition out of the jam into the final chorus and outro is quite possibly the second best extended sequence in the entire catalog.

What is your top 5, Stip? I feel like you've called more than 5 songs 'top 5' during this tournament.

DTE, Yellow Ledbetter, Life Wasted, Small Town, and Immortality probably round out my top 10. Comatose used to be in my top 5 but it's dropped down to my top 20.

My feelings pretty much match Jorge's, though I think some of the live versions of "Porch" from 1995-2000 have given rise to some of the best improvisational playing of the band's career. No shame in factoring that in, but my vote still goes to "Black," even though I've despised those "doo-doo-doo"s at the end since I was 11 years old.

I gotta go with Porch. Black didn't hold up once the 90s ended, IMHO.

Black. It's a transcendent song.

At PJ in 2006 with a mate and everyone was "doo-dooing" at the end, myself included. He looks at me deadpan and says "You sound like a fucking dove". I lost my shit. That's all I can hear now.

I read this on my mobile and thought it was Stip. It made sense.

I concur Mr Plat except for the jam section. That rocks. Black but I haven't sought out either for years.
