I just watched the Gatti-Ward trilogy. Jesus fucking Christ!

I very rarely watch any actual boxing-but I love boxing. I love to read about fights, fighters, training, strategy, and really everything related to the sport. I love boxing movies, too. The HBO show 24/7 about boxers training for a big fight is one of my favorite things on TV. But watching the actual fighting turns me off. That said, I am looking forward to Mayweather-Pacquiao.
And I'm considering joining a boxing gym, to learn the sport.

I'm the same way. I love books about boxing and boxing movies, but I never actually watch the sport live.

What the fuck? You love boxing but don't like watching matches? Then how can you say...how the fuck...that doesn't make any...what...

Boxing does a real good job of keeping people from watching boxing.

That's like saying you love music but don't enjoy listening to music.

It's not that weird, especially for boxing. The idea of two men alone in a ring with nothing but their hands and their minds is fascinating. But to actually watch two men beat each other bloody is not attractive.
It's like when people say "I like the idea of ____, but not ____."

I watched plenty of boxing on HBO when I was a kid, but it jumped the shark for me when I listened to the scrambled PPV broadcast (the audio was crystal clear, so it was like it was on the radio) of Holyfield/Tyson II. When my dad came home soon after the fight was over, he thought I was bullshitting him when I told him Tyson bit Holyfield's ear. Then he saw the nightly news coverage. Good stuff.

I was super into boxing back in the day; got all the Tyson fights, etc. Still get HBO and Showtime and will watch 5-10 fights per year on those networks. Don't dish out for PPV anymore, but will for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, although I'm disappointed that it took so long to book. Don't think Pac is still in his super duper prime.

Yup, Gatti-Ward. Those fights were the best I've ever seen. Jim Lampley had a great line, I think it was in the first fight: "Before tonight, we thought that this fight had a chance to be the fight of the year, BUT NOW, it might just be THE fight of the century!!!"

As an outside observer, it seems like Mayweather held off on the Pac fight until Pac had declined enough that Mayweather could win.

That is my impression too.

Mayweather's declined too. It's as even a fight as it was ever going to be, although Mayweather has a slight edge.

Boxing is the Pearl Jam of sports. It used to be good, now it's crap.

Still, it's the only sport I follow.

But it's too bad that they are not fighting in their prime when it could have happened. From what I've read, Pac didn't want to submit to same day urine tests, while Mayweather, perhaps fearing a loss, came up with his own excuses.

Now, we have two fighters on the backend of their career about to fight the last meaningful fight for awhile...not a bad thing though...it might make for a better brawl if both are a bit slower now.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I like Pac in this fight. I don't think Pac really fears Mayweather. He sees him as Márquez with better skills, but with less punching power. Pac is gonna apply the pressure and Mayweather will do his counter-punch/defensive thing, but he will have to engage Pac at some point. I'm not an idiot, I know this has been every fighter's plan going into Mayweather fights for the last several years, but I do think age is starting to show for Mayweather. And Mayweather has never really faced anybody that will deliver the onslaught that Pac will bring. Mayweather is gonna get hit with something nasty in this fight and Mayweather is such a good defensive specialist that we don't really know how he will respond to that. Also, Pac's style tends to win judges over.

I like Pac in a KO in the 8th or unanimous decision.

I hope Pac wins, but I think the only chance he has is via KO. I think that's very possible given Mosley buzzed Mayweather pretty good, but then just stood there. I don't see Pac doing that if he hurts Mayweather, he'll go for the KO.

Realistically, I see Mayweather winning a boring decision.

For sure, it would've been better to have seen them fight each other in their primes, or closer to them, but not only does it remain the biggest fight in boxing (in monetary terms), it's also the most important. These two guys are two of the best fighters in the world pound for pound, and they're without a doubt the two best welterweights.

Anyway, I think Pac's best chance is to make sure his punching volume stands in contrast to Mayweather's, which is usually low. If he throws a bunch of left hand bombs per round, even if only one or two land flush, that may be enough to get the judges' attention.

I can't see Pac knocking out Floyd. People underestimate Floyd's chin and his general toughness.

Honestly, though, I'd put money on Pac. I think it's an even fight, but Manny is still considered a 3-to-1 underdog.

I wonder if Given2trade will be there on May 2.
