I think he deserves his own thread. I must say, i dig the man..even when its impossible not to realize the different things he "borrowed" from different filmmakers, his movies are really entertaining to me.
Favorites:
Dressed to kill
Blow out
Body Double
The Untouchables
Carlitos way
Mission Impossible
Snake Eyes
Good ones:
Raisin cain
The bonfire of vanities
Mission to mars
Redacted
Carrie
Scarface

Loved:
Blow Out
Liked:
The Fury
Dressed to Kill
Body Double
Mostly hated the rest.
Scarface is garbage. The acting is terrible, the score is horrendous and none of the violence is earned. As in there is no real investment in any of the characters, so it's just violence for the sake of violence.

You can't class him with Michael Bay even if you don't think he's a good director. DePalma at least attempted to make good movies, and his movies are very watchable. Michael Bay is just a hack x 1,000,000.

“Style will always convince cinematic purists that the surfaces they admire contain depth, and that clear shortcomings in disguise. DePalma isn’t logical, so he must be impressionistic. He isn’t realistic, so he must be surrealistic. He isn’t scrupulous, so he must be audacious. He isn’t earnest, so he must be ironical. He isn’t funny, so he must be serious.”
From Martin Amis's relentlessly vicious take-down essay "Brian DePalma: The Movie Brute", featured in his book "The Moronic Inferno".

He did Snake Eyes?
That was my first rated R movie in the theater. It was a let down. But I still blame it on Cage.

Jesus Christ, what a horrendous shitshow of a thread. VG and bart were the only ones with any sense in here. Fucking hell. I am appalled.
