Can any resident Southerners give us a general pulse on where the status of the Confederate flag in society is at now? As a Northwesterner I'm pretty much as divorced from that situation as possible. The only time I came across it was when my best friend as a kid and his brother (both from Atlanta) had them in their rooms, but at that time I had no understanding at all on that.

I live in Illinois and I regularly see them on trucks. It seems completely insane to me.

I'm southern born and I have never understood it. I doubt the people who brandish it actually understand why they wave it or what it represents to them.

It's a very loaded symbol.

There are still a bunch of "good old boys" here that fly it on their gigantic pickup trucks. Mostly simple minded fools, but those fools won't hesitate to rally if laws about it are changed.

To me, not only is it sickening but it really makes the states that still fly it look dumb. Who is going to take you seriously if you fly a flag that represented so many bad things from 150 years ago?
