Why can't it just be a single thread. A single "right song/wrong album" thread.

I've always wished that Red Mosquito was on Vitalogy. The No Code version is distant and reflective, muted the way that so much of that album is muted. I'd love to hear a savage version of it a la Not For You

I hear ya. Never been a big fan of Red Mosquito studio version. The guitars sound like they're dying to let loose. LO2L is the definitive one imo.

I haven't heard that with regard to Red Mosquito but it does apply to the studio version of Better Man (which was partially built from the live version from Atlanta '94).

Really? I hadn't heard that. You remember the source of this nugget? The interview I recall distinctly called out RM as being the first time they had used live tracks for a studio cut.
Our memories contradict each other, so this may require some digging.
We discussed this at length on the board when the info came to light (including comparing the audio from each version to confirm).
I believe the source of the info was a promotional interview by Brendan from when the Vs/Vitalogy remaster was released, discussion seems to start at pg 60 of
this thread on the old board.

It wouldn't. But the sound and feel of this session would have greatly improved the song

Yes, if only the sound and feel of this stupid, stupid song could be greatly improved.
I don't want it added to the album proper, but Brain of J should really have been a Vitalogy or a No Code b-side. It's not a bad song, but it just fits that era a lot better than it does Yield. I halfway feel that the only reason it's on that record is that they wanted to open with a rocker, and most of what they were writing at that time was midtempo.
