anyone check out the pilot? it has potential, really well done.
The Man in the High Castle is an American alternate history television series produced by Amazon Studios. The series is based on the 1962 novel of the same name by American science fiction author Philip K. Dick. The story is an alternate history of the world in which the Axis powers won World War II. The United States has been divided into three parts: The Japanese puppet state of the Pacific States of America, which comprises the former United States west of the Rocky Mountains; a German puppet state that comprises the eastern half of the former United States; and a neutral zone that acts as a buffer between the two areas, called the Rocky Mountain States.

Yeah, very good. The set designs and overall look of the series are fantastic. The pilot was setting so much up that it was kinda hard to get a sense of the quality of the acting, but I am a huge Rufus Sewell fan. Obviously, the premise is engaging, but it could go sideways pretty quickly if it focuses too much on politics.

It's been said: "History is written by the victors." The newest Amazon Original Series The Man in the High Castle, based on Philip K. Dick's award-winning novel, explores what it would be like if the Allied Powers had lost WWII.
This weekend only, the first and second episodes of The Man in the High Castle will be available to stream for all Amazon customers. Get started on the first two episodes now, then on November 20th, stream the entire first season available only on Prime.

Correct. As long as you have an Amazon login, you can watch the first 2 eps for free.

Haven't watched this yet, but super-interested due to Frank Spotnitz's involvement.

Second episode was good. Although...
- Spoiler: show
- I'm pretty annoyed that it's already clear that Joe is gonna switch sides. I would have liked more "will he or won't he" tension.
Also, Rufus Sewell is perfect for his role.

Wait. So America doesn't come in until way into the war. Does this mean the premise of this show is that we somehow botch our fresh-faced late arrival and that Russia does not go to war with Germany, so that Germany can somehow claim Europe? And then, they and the Japanese both still have the muscle and the desire to execute an extensive long-distance land war in order to dominate a nation that will be a terrible pain in the ass to manage, and which was not a part of any of their original plans? And also a European country immediately post-World War II looks at the vast productive farmland in the center of the country and says, "Meh, let's just make it a neutral zone"??
Maybe they execute it well, but that's a dumb premise.

Wrong. In the novel (and the show, presumably), the Germans have control of the farmland.

The book is great and the series is very well done. If you've read the book there are pretty significant reasons why the actual layout of the alternate history doesn't really matter. Also IIRC the main reason the Germans win is that they develop nukes first, preventing the need for major land wars in the US and the USSR.

Joe and Juliana are kind of awful.
