Thing is though, with his raw physical talent, it shouldn't have been crazy talk.

Moss is third in receiving yards. 4th in TDs behind Rice, Emmitt and LT. Averaged 15.6 yards a catch. And routinely beat multiple coverages designed to stop him in those Viking days.

The only negatives are that he simply didn't give a fuck those years in OAK. The label that he was a "bad blocker" was largely overblown.

LOL.

Tim Brown only had 2 years with double digit TD receptions. Moss had 9. And Moss averaged almost 2 full yards more per reception.

Maybe I'll get back to this tomorrow morning, but for now, compare Moss's stats with Marvin Harrison's.

Moss had more 1,000 yard seasons. 30 more TDs. And averaged almost 2.5 more yards per reception.

If you look at Hutson's stats and compare them to the other people of his era, he was actually more dominant than Rice.

99 receiving TDs for a guy that played in his era is fucking crazy.

Moss had more 1,000 yard seasons. 30 more TDs. And averaged almost 2.5 more yards per reception.
--Harrison had 8 1,000 yard seasons and Moss had 10, but two of Moss's were just barely over 1,000. Harrison also led the league twice in yards per season, something Moss never did.
--A difference of 28 TDs in favor of Moss (156 to 128) isn't that big. Plus, I don't value TDs super high for WRs. The YAC needs more context--i.e., WRs asked to go deep more often are going to have higher YACs
--Yes, Harrison had Peyton Manning, but he also got siphoned off by Reggie Wayne much of his career. Plus, we don't seem to dock Rice for having two HOF QBs most of his career.

The point is that there was someone quite comparable to Moss during the same time he played, so it makes him far from a slam dunk for this title. It's a damn shame, too, because if he played to his full capabilities his entire career there wouldn't be a dispute.

Moss has the statistical edge in almost every category and those numbers came with the likes of Randall Cunningham, Brad Johnson and Geoff George throwing him the ball against coverages designed to stop only him. His speed and ball skills made him better than Marvin.

1. Rice
2-3 Harrison/Moss
4. Tim Brown
5. I don't know who this Hutson guy was, but his stats are nuts.

Megatron is dominating right now though.

Also, anyone who brings up Lynn Swann gets a fucking dick punch. Most overrated player in NFL history.

Just on the eyeball test, you've got to give Moss the edge over Harrison. Moss was a dude who you were terrified when your team had to defend him. Harrison wasn't the guy who scared you on the Colts.

this couldn't have been easy, i respect your candor.

that being said, i suppose sharpe wasn't part of the teams that routinely emasculated the bears in the 90s/00s.
