song that most defines the band

I didnt find this topic in the search

DTE or GTF are my votes. I think they both are very representative of the band's styles and messages. GTF being the more accessable side of PJ, as far as challenging songs go DTE is also pretty accessable.

I say DTE since a good portion (my favorite portion) of the band's career has focused on making their music meaningful yet unconventional.

I considered Corduroy too, but the song's message might not be central to their catalogue, but the sound definately is.

Corduroy, though GTF is a good choice as well. Musically and especially thematically. These songs mine themes that recur over and over again.

As amazing as DTE is it does feel a bit like a sonic outlier.

I agree with rvm, but Jeremy, leash and maybe daughter could only appear on the 1st 2 albums. Dte, gtf, rvm, and corduroy with some slight alterations could probably appear anywhere from vitalogy to LB

It's not necessarily my favorite, but I think "Hail, Hail" fits the bill.

It's Corduroy without a doubt. Sonically and lyrically it fits the bill.

Alive and Present Tense could be used too.

It's Alive. Wtf? It's the signature riff. It's the signature chorus. Its meaning has evolved throughout the band's career.
