Amazon and CD Universe are offering a pre-sale of the Soldier Field show. To be available January 15, 2016. Released by somebody/something called "Smokin' Productions" and labeled with "All Tracks From An FM Radio Broadcast."

All recordings of this show suck ass. The soundboard is mono and sounds like it was recorded with a tin can and string. The audience recording is distant and loaded with shifts in quality as the wind blows the sound around. Combined into a matrix, they are equally as shitty.

More and more releases like this are popping up on Amazon, etc. -- there are dozens for the likes of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, which I just assumed were old European radio broadcasts that had crossed over into the public domain, but that's clearly not the case here. How is this not incurring the wrath of Pearl Jam, Inc?

I believe they are mostly coming from Greece, who only has a 20 year limit on radio broadcasts. They are releasing things that were not radio broadcasts and calling them such anyway. I heard the hammer was coming down on these guys soon, but who knows.

They released a whole bunch of Frank Zappa broadcasts (and non-broadcasts), many of which don't sound that great, which takes cajones since his wife was one of the most sue happy people on the planet. But I guess it's a really tough nut to crack. They did manage to uncover some uncirculated Captain Beefheart stuff from 1966, which is cool.

I bought this Miles Davis release over the summer:

...on the basis that some legitimate publications were reviewing it and that it remains one of the last significant periods in Miles's discography yet to be covered by Columbia/Legacy. I was extremely happy with it for the cost -- 4CD set for $21, a nice booklet with a very well-written essay, and for being radio broadcasts from 1960, I thought the sound was mostly pretty good -- but it's definitely not a rabbit hole I'd want to go down, at least not without doing my research first.

There are a few Dylan titles from '61-'63-ish out there, which seems weird since Columbia has been issuing those massive 50-year copyright extension sets on vinyl just to keep these recordings from slipping into PD. Maybe these few slipped passed the doorman...

I don't think the Dylan demotape from 1961 was copyrighted in time. It's a fantastic tape...about 81 minutes long. Some of it was used on the original "Great White Wonder" bootleg. It is available from a 1st gen reel dub, and sounds great...better than the tracks that appeared in the official bootleg series. There are also some radio broadcasts from 1962 and 1963 that Columbia couldn't secure the rights to...most notably the "Folksinger's Choice" show from 1962, which is also fantastic.

The first disc and part of the second are from Stockholm -- presumably not complete shows, but wonderful performances nonetheless. Did he go back to Europe later in the year with Stitt in place of Coltrane?

Folksinger's Choice is a must-have if you can stand Cynthia Gooding. The one that keeps popping up in my "recommended" queue is the Finjan Club from '63, which despite sounding great has never been one of my favorite performances. I thought for sure anything from '63 on would have been caught by the copyright extension, but maybe not in this case. Apparently purchasers of the recent 18CD "Cutting Edge" set were just sent a massive email with links to all the circulating '65 shows, though from what I gather they might be mp3 only, which would be a damn shame.

Which '61 tape are you referring to, WCT? This guy put together a nice mix from the various circulating '61 tapes, almost all of which are a delight:

i'll have to go dig it up and find out....I know that coltrane is on the disc as well but stitt may very well be added on recording from other dates
