yeah i assume its the same way Laika does it: 3D printed faces that are swapped out depending on the expression.

I watched Anomalisa today and really enjoyed it. It was a very small movie--nowhere near the "epic" scale of Syn. NY--but packed with great scenes. I never thought (plot details ahead, be warned)...
