Mark Lanegan is a worthy number one. I am somewhat surprised that King Animal wasn't the winner. I would've been happy either way.

i was kinda surprised it was as high as #2, but i think it was on a ton of lists, just not the top.

how close was it with some of the top 10?

i had Lanegan at like #9 then gave it a few more listens and ended up having it #5 i think, wondering if it was close enough that somehting like that made a difference

it wasn't close enough that a single ranking would have made a difference with the top 2. unless someone changed it from 1st to 20th or something. the point spread in the top 10 was fairly decisive. it starts to get a little closer in the lower rankings.

"Really guys?" is my reaction to about 80% of that list. Heh, opinions.

if not too much work, could you put the points next to the artists as well? just curious how much it differs.

i usually avoid posting the points because i don't think it really illustrates much outside of the top 10 or so other than that we are a fairly diverse group of people who don't agree on much. however here is the point breakdown. you'll notice a bunch of ties. there were a lot this year for some reason.

in the case of a tie, whichever album had the most #1 votes took the higher position. if there were no #1 votes, then whichever album had those most total votes. if that doesn't settle anything then it remains a tie. this is the method that i have used every year to break ties. for example the tie between #8 and #9 (Springsteen and Fiona Apple), Bruce was voted for 6 times, 3 of those taking the #1 spot on their respective list. Fiona Apple was voted for 5 times with two #1's. it's probably neither scientific nor fair but it's better than going alphabetical.

though i didnt really get through it more then 3 times, so its always hard to say where it would have ended up with that few spins
