We'll need one more person.

Any questions about the rules before we get going? I think 5 songs is a good amount (so 40 total). I think we'll do 12 hours between picks; does that sounds fair? Snake-style draft.

I'm not in this (i'll vote) , but you want an even number of songs if you don't want to give the people going first an advantage with a snake draft

I'd probably recommended 4 songs instead of 6, though.

stip is smart. 4 songs it is, unless anyone has an objection.

Don't be scared now: I made a master list of 43 songs I'm willing to draft. I would bet $10 that I know the first two songs that will get selected, too.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I need some clarification here. I thought if a song wasn't written specifically for the show it wouldn't be eligible? So "The Monster Mash" wouldn't be eligible regardless of who sings it. Right?

I took that to mean that the music playing in the background wouldn't be sufficient, unless it was an original tune, but a cover in the show (not just playing the original ) would be fine

stip is right--if a character or a group of characters "covers" a song, I think it should be eligible (I don't want to give too many examples, because I don't want to give away what I'm thinking). But keep in mind that the length issue comes into effect here--even if a character just sings 2-3 lines from someone else's song, it can be picked. I'll sort of re-write the rules to make that clear.

Something I'd like other people's opinion on: if an artist performs their own song on The Simpsons without the participation of an original Simpsons character, should that be allowed? Example: U2 performing in "Trash of the Titans." My inclination is no. However, if a Simpsons character sings with an artist performing their own song (like Moe singing with Aerosmith in "Flaming Moe") then I think it should be allowed in.

Now that we have eight people, I'm thinking of starting the draft on Monday and doing 12 hours between picks (however, if someone picks, you don't have to wait the full 12 hours to pick, obviously). Is that standard? I'm hoping to get the draft done by next weekend, so we can start voting.

I actually mean to address this in the rules--I don't think they should be, since they weren't featured on the show.
