Red Mosquito is a great song that serves as a perfect segue between the desperate need for answers on Vitalogy and the halting presentation of them on No Code.
Footsteps is overwrought as hell. It was just years until I cared since Eddie's performance is so raw.
Breakerfall was much improved when it became Gonna See My Friend. This song has everything I like in pearl jam but somehow feels flat and compressed and fairly uninteresting in its final form.

Footsteps shouldn't win because it isn't even the best version of itself. Times of Trouble is better.

I voted Breakerfall because I've always loved the song and it should get more love around here. In reality though, Red Mosquito is the better song.

No, its more like these are both songs I like a lot. In fact, I probably would give them both four stars. I said RM was the "better song" because I believe that structurally it probably is superior. But my personal enjoyment of the songs is basically equal. And I also know that I've been a strong proponent of RM in previous tournaments and I know it has typically advanced much further than Breakerfall. With that in mind, and knowing that Breakerfall generally doesn't get much attention around these parts, I decided to give it my support. It's like having two friends that I equally like in the running for homecoming king, and I am choosing to support the one that usually gets ignored by most people while the other is already popular without my help.

I think Breakerfall kind of...sucks? Not "late period Pearl Jam sucks" but I think it's definitely one of the weaker moments in the band's 1990-2000 catalogue. It's loud and driving but rings kind of hollow for me, like a detached genre exercise that presents well but doesn't tap into a tangible sense of power and urgency.
Easy vote for Red Mosquito.
