Battle of the EV solo show encores. No disrespect to "Elderly Woman" but I'm going with "The End" -- I listened to a version of that the other day (one of the LA '09 versions) and found myself really caught up in it. It's a very nicely crafted piece of music, and maybe the most eloquent Eddie has been in writing about his various PRAMG aging-husband-and-father dramas.

My appreciation for Elderly Woman is as strong as it ever was. I think the only slow song they have that's better is Immortality. It's just a masterpiece of simple storytelling, and one of those songs where the live rituals are not only powerful but appropriate.


The End is a good song, but I don't think it deserved the love it got when Backspacer first came out. It's strong, but not the best thing on that album. I suspect some people who really wanted something slower and serious honed in on this song since it was really your only option on the record. It benefits from standing alone.

Golden State is, like don't believe in christmas, perfect for a fun x-mas single you enjoy a few times a year, and no more than that.

I thought for sure I was going to be the only one to vote for "The End" over "Small Town".

It's not going to win. "Small Town" will demolish it, and that's OK by me.

Elderly Woman is a very good song that I have tired of. I wouldn't mind if I never heard it again. It's still preferable to the other two songs here.

Not an easy choice because I'm not that big a fan of any of these songs. But Small Town has had staying power, so I threw it a bone.

Golden State has Corin Tucker right? I'll listen later, but I have a feeling I'm gonna vote for it.

The version with Natalie Maines is better, in my opinion, love Corin though I do.
