Three worthy songs here. Pearl Jam utterly owns Crazy Mary, even if they didn't write it. Grievance is probably my favorite song on Binaural, but something about the studio recording has never quite sat right with me. It feels a bit too boxed in. It doesn't fully deliver on the promise of freedom in the song. The definitive version of this is the letterman performance.

Comatose was once a top 5 song for me. It's still top 20. One of the most bitterly savage songs in the catalog, and a great example of how you can say a lot of very smart things with deceptively simply lyrics. Given Eddie's recent tendency to overwrite it is particularly welcome.


Comatose, but there's no shame losing to Grievance.

Geez, this is a tough one. I disagree with Joey here, Comatose is great. Especially live, it is a beast. That being said, it isn't as good as Grievance or Crazy Mary. I don't like voting for covers so I'll go Grievance here.

Grievance is one of pearl jams greatest songs. Just awesome in every sense. Grievance

I know lyrically and thematically they're totally different but man Comatose really comes off like Diet Grievance. It's a cover band trying to write an original that captures the energy and rawness of a song they love by the band they pay tribute to. It's so blech.

But I'm obviously in the minority. People seem to really dig it.

it's the uglier side of the band that you don't seem to be into. Grievance is still firmly rooted in the optimistic and inspirational side of their music.

For the record, Grievance is middle of the road, for me. I enjoy it but it's in the back half on Binaural for sure. But I do like it way more than Comatose.

Comatose is one of the good S/T songs, but it doesn't have a shot here. Nor does Crazy Mary, as much as I do like it. Grievance it is.
