Sleight Of Hand without much thought.

you is one of those few pearl jam songs I genuinely don't like. I dislike it less than I used to, but it's still a far cry from being welcomed onto any of my playlists.

I don't think pearl jam does this kind of depressing misery that well. SoH is an idea I can appreciate whose execution does nothing for me. I think the only time this song gets listened to is if I'm doing a LAL:Binaural or something similar. The best songs on Binaural have an outward bite to them (Rival/Grievance) or an inner flame that the song is protecting (Insignificance). This has neither.


I had a lot of trouble with Who You Are when it first came out. I couldn't figure out its tone, and it signaled a departure that i wasn't happy about (they could have keep writing albums like Ten, Vs, or Vitalogy for the rest of their lives and only pedophiles and jerks would complain). So it really took me years to appreciate the song for what it was. Now that I do it's probably the song on No Code I enjoy the most, which means (for me) no song has ever been rehabilitated as much as Who You are

You is ok n'all, but Who You Are and Sleight Of Hand are both elite PJ. Egads, this is a tough one, I guess today I like WYA more.

These are all great songs.

I enjoy Who You Are, but this is a very easy matchup for me. Sleight of Hand is one of the best things this band has done (these new matchups have a fair amount of heavy hitters). It's stuff like this that makes me feel a little bittersweet about what could have been in the last decade. The band's written songs that are better than this (though not many), but few this surprising. After I'd listened to and got accustomed to their whole catalog, Sleight of Hand stuck out all the more. I just wouldn't have thought they were capable of this kind of song.

"Who You Are" is more special to me personally, but the list of things this band has done which are greater than "Sleight of Hand" is very short. I can't deny the facts here: "Sleight of Hand" wins.

I would have voted for U but didn't see that option.

Sleight of Hand vs Who You Are is a worthy battle but I'd take Who You Are right now 99 out of 100 times

WYA is kinda bad. SOH is incredible.

Who You Are is the worst lyrically constructed song they have. Period. Yuck.

If this was 2 years ago, I would have voted easily for WYA. SoH clicked for me pretty recently.
U is very underrated too, I like them all.

This is one of those rare songs where it doesn't matter what the lyrics are. The instrumentation is just exquisite. It's got the whole incredible vibe of what made Jack Irons-era PJ so good.

Jack and Ed best friends forever

That's the moss in the previous verse.

U was the original b-side title, You was the title of the bastardised version on Lost Dogs.

I'm fond of all three songs here but easy vote for Sleight of Hand.
