Since i can't remember how 2x4 sounds (I know it's the first song in the demos, and one of the harder ones) it's out.


Can't Keep is a wonderful atmospheric opener which has a palpable sense of worn possibility that the rest of the album only intermittently achieves.


Like Force of Nature, Lightning Bolt is an amazing song that starts out with its weakest moment (other than the chorus lyrics). But once you get past that this is a textbook example of excellent anthem writing--the song manages to keep building for its entire runtime, has some excellent work by mike, solid lyrics, committed performances by everyone, and that excellent final verse that, more than any song since Given to Fly, captures that classic pearl jam feeling of liberation through music.

Vote for Lighting Bolt.

CAN'T KEEP

I'd forgotten how awful Can't Keep starts and since I've never heard 2x4, Lightning Bolt gets it.

Can't Keep is gonna destroy this one, but for me it's LB, fairly easily.

Round H is pretty easy, sans the SOH vs. WYA match up.

I enjoy Lightning Bolt more now, after the live versions have washed the taste of the studio version out of my mouth. But it's no Can't Keep. I'm actually not a fan of the uke-only Can't Keep; I feel like it loses the unique atmosphere that PJ stumbled upon in this song. It doesn't really sound like anything else they've done. I love the circular, swirling feel of the guitars contrasted with the martial approach Matt takes on the drums.

Can't Keep is up there with the elite songs. Round H is full of them (Last Exit, In My Tree, SOLAT, SOH, WYA, etc..). Having said that, I don't totally hate LB, that first guitar solo is really fun.

"Cant Keep" is top tier PJ. The interplay of those beautifully produced drums and that warm acoustic guitar is just wonderful.

Can't Keep in a no-brainer. Up there with some of their best "produced" songs.

Yep. Easy vote here. "LB" has grown on me some, but not such that I'd consider voting for it against anything other than some of the other songs from that album.

If we need to bulk up the song roster, I'd prefer demos of original songs (2x4) over yet more covers (Wishing Well).
