Tension and release, catharsis. You can FEEL the the anxiety and impending reveal of this song, don't listen to it to much, as I fear a diminishing impact upon repeated listening.

Hey! - Pixies.

Encapsulates the pixies. Melding of two kindered voices, off kilter rhythms, abstract and slowly revealed lyrics. Makes me feel odd in all the right ways.

Pictures of you - the cure.

You have to have felt these words, rhymes and moods to feel the full engrossing nature of this track. Has a melody and instrumentation ever so seamlessly matched and complimented each other?

The great wordsmith of affected youth and young adulthood shone thru the lense of a child.
I adore everything about this song. The way less than technically correct phrasing and imperfect vocals. The flamenco guitar flourishes and the way you have no choice but to believe every word the singer delivers

"Web in Front" by Archers of Loaf. It was a pretty big song for me as a teen and I still get kind of emotional when I listen to it.

"Pedro Navaja" by Ruben Blades and "Mayonaise" by the Smashing Pumpkins are perennial favorites.

"Pale Blue Eyes" by The Velvet Underground and "Morning Theft" by Jeff Buckley were both pretty major. They're both closely tied in my memory to a pretty significant relationship. Still a big fan of both-- "Morning Theft" is still one of my automatic go-to melodies for noodling when someone hands me a guitar.

"Hundreds of Sparrows" by Sparklehorse. "Have You Forgotten" by Red House Painters, especially the electric version.

I memorized every second of Joe Strummer's first album with The Mescaleros listening to it every day on my way to college. "X-Ray Style" and "Nitcomb" from that album are still big favorites. "My Lover's Prayer" by Otis Redding. "Neither One of Us" by Gladys Knight. Don't ask.

A bunch of standards, particularly "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "I Cover the Waterfront". A bunch of Smiths songs. A bunch of Cure songs. A bunch of Stax/Motown stuff. Some other stuff. I dunno man. Music is great.

I'm having a hard time picking single songs but here is some stuff:

Pretty much anything off of Siamese Dream. Especially Rocket or Spaceboy. Its been in regular rotation for most of my adult life.

Same for Jar of Flies, particularly Don't Follow.

Hum is one of my favorite bands ever and seeing them last year was a dream come true. Iron Clad Lou or The Pod of The Scientists or anything really. Its never gets old.

They were great. Since they've only played a handful of shows over the last twenty years, I was expecting them to sound rough, but they were tight. Extremely loud, too. I probably had some hearing damage. The crowd was really into it and they interacted well.

The lead singer kinda looks like Freddy Krueger now. He is not a pretty man.

I should probably add a Modest Mouse song. Maybe Third Planet or Cowboy Dan. Anything off of Antarctica or Crowded West.
