Gardening at Night is maybe the best song of their early period. Hairshirt is okay, but it reminds me too much of too many far superior songs.

Hairshirt is really pretty but not that special.
I never listened to Gardening at Night before. Let's change that. Hey, this is pretty great. I should listen to the Chronic Town EP.

I don't know why I never checked it out. I have a habit of never listening to EPs even with bands I absolutely love.

The 11th Untitled song is way better than Hairshirt.

11th Untitled Song is so fucking good it hurts. But Hairshirt is also amazing, and the gulf between them isn't as wide as you say.
