I like why not smile okay, but like many Up tracks it feels overproduced--like a band trying something new and not having figured out (or having the internal dynamics) to find restraint (apparently that was one of Berry's major contributions. He was the editor).
Laughing has grown on me a lot over the years, especially the chorus. Vote for laughing.

Why Not Smile is one of the most beautiful things this band has ever done. And the production and arrangements are perfect.

"Why Not Smile" is good but, again, sounds better when I'm locked into the mood of "Up." "Laughing" is a delicious little slice if downtempo "Murmur" pop.
