two pretty evenly matched songs. I like the idea of Walk Unafraid a bit more, but it never quite popped live on the album the way I wanted it to (or that it did live). Sad Professor doesn't have the highs, but it's more consistent.

Walk Unafraid

I remember an interview from around the time of "Up"'s release where Stipe really talked about being proud of "Walk Unafraid" -- how he really felt like it represented a moment of growth for him as a lyricist, how he never could have written a song like that when he was younger, etc. But it's probably one of my least favorite songs on "Up" -- "Sad Professor," with its quietly defeated chorus, is a much stronger track to my ears.

Is "Walk Afraid" the sequel?

First Aid Kit did a great cover of Walk Unafraid.

Both songs are stellar, I like Walk Unafraid sightly better.

Sad Professor is the reason we have How to Disappear Completely. That has to be good for some extra credit.
