What Does Your Significant Other Think of PJ?

Do they like them? Dislike them? Are they familiar them at all? Do they care?

My wife's level of fandom is roughly the same as mine, maybe a little heavier, even (she used to get Christmas singles and stuff). We met through a PJ forum when we were 14, so PJ has played a notable role in our relationship. Her favorite album is No Code. I asked her what her top 10 PJ songs were and she said:

1. Who You Are
All or None
Hard to Imagine
I Got Shit
Insignificance
Not for You
Rearviewmirror
Save You
Tremor Christ
Wash

I dislike "Who You Are" and "All or None", so, as you can imagine, we are on the brink of divorce.

Send her my way once it's finalized.

Not really, no. She doesn't really like any of the music I like.

I don't want to derail your thread with negativity.

My wife liked Pearl Jam quite a bit from 2000-2009...not because of their output during those years, but because 2000 is when she was introduced to them. At that point, her favorite artists were probably Nick Cave, The Mountain Goats, and Tom Waits, so that lower key PJ stuff was an ok fit.

We saw a couple of 2003 shows together (my last). Backspacer was a problem, because the week it came out is when her oldest (my step son) was in his car accident, and the first 11 words of The End alone were enough to tie those things together forever on her mind. I doubt she's ever heard it since.

Anyway, I think she got bored with them over the years after that...she never cared for the rage-ahol stuff, so after a while she'd just heard it all too much. When I downloaded LB, it auto-added to her phone and she texted me at work a brief string of things like "wow pearl jam is so boring now," and "Don't make me listen anymore! I'll talk! I'll talk!" It was my favorite thing about the album.

So basically she's not that far removed from being an RMer.

My wife likes the standards. She was supposed to see them live for the first time in Raleigh with me.

Many people on RM aren't nerds about Pearl Jam - they're just boring meme-quoting twats who post the same dull shit over and over.

Pearl Jam are barely even in my girlfriend's radar. She knows who they are, and won't complain when they come on, but I doubt she knows a single song title beyond "Jeremy" and maybe "Last Kiss". She's never really been a big rock fan; she grew up listening to classical, folk and bluegrass. She was born in Portland so she has a built-in affinity for effete "tweendie" bands that feature glockenspiels. Her favorite current musicians are Kishi Bashi, The Magnetic Fields, and Sara Watkins. Basically she is the anti-Spenno.

That sounds horrific. My wife has some tastes that lean that way and I hate it.
