They ranked Great Scott in Allston, MA as #8 out of 100. That's one of the stupidest fucking things I've heard, or ever will hear, in my entire life.
It's a perfectly cromulant dive bar, and I'll give them credit for generally having good sound. But is that all it takes? Shit, the Sanders Theater in Cambridge is miles better than Great Scott, and it's just a few miles away.
yeah that's absurd

I'd put the paradise or even brighton music hall (formerly harper's ferry) over great scott.

I've been to seven of these and they are the ones I would expect. I'm surprised they ranked the Metro so high, but it's a great place to see a show.

Half of each entry is about who you'll see there or a single defining trait that makes it stand out.
The best music venue I ever knew was a piece of shit bar in Sioux Falls. Half the big bands that I would do local crew work for would pop by there after the show to fuck around. Tom Petty played an hour of only 60's covers. Aerosmith played blues so loose and frayed you'd never know it was them. Members of Dylan's Love and Theft-era band joined locals to jam. It wasn't a special place or a center for a scene. The sound was just accidentally great. Remarkably so. But it was in SF so who the fuck even knew and then it was demolished.
TL;DR version: lists of venues are dumb.

No idea, but the crew there has always been very prickly.
I miss being screamed at by big black security guys to hurry up and pack up my instruments and get the fuck out two minutes after the show ends. That's normal procedure everywhere, isn't it?

Not sure what they find so special about Lupo's...place is ok but nothing great...if they were going to go somewhere in New England outside of Boston metro, at least to me, Hampton Beach Casino should be on there long before Lupos

I live about 10 miles down the road. Nice place, but they aren't exactly known for high caliber acts. I believe that one of Scott Wieland's last performances was there (and nobody came).
