Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

What a time to be alive. I believe we need to see Ruddo's cliff avatar.

I'm finding it kind of disconcerting that McP doesn't sound like HAL 9000

The backstory for this is that I didn't take it very seriously going in, and had spent all day going back and forth between my old and new places on my bike moving the last few trinkets. I then had a tall scotch and powered up Skype, which turned out to be a lot because I hadn't stopped to eat since breakfast.

Then LV made it worse by having great questions, which I mostly responded to with pauses and nonsense.

My favorite moment is at the end, he asks me about a specific person and I'm sure you can hear me going "oh shit I know that name what do I know that name from what do I know..."

So I answer with a JJ Abrams joke to buy time, it never comes to me, and then he repeats the name and I hadn't even heard him right the first time. I'd spent all that time sure I recognized a name that probably doesn't exist.

Pretty perfect closing considering how much time we spent with the question of "is this brilliant, or is the joke on me?"

I wouldn't worry about it - I always edit out pauses and nonsense to make everyone sound real good. ;)

I'm fifteen minutes into this and I can safely say, 100%, McP is the smartest and most interesting motherfucker in the room. In any room.

Jesus, what a slap in the face.
It makes his utter indifference and dismissal of me hurt all the more.

But then he goes and starts using narrative and story interchangeably and I have to wonder if he hasn't been tricking me this entire time.

I don't think you ever explained how you delineate these two? One of the dictionary definitions of "narrative" is literally "a story."

Sometimes when I listen to these after the fact I get frustrated with myself because I feel certain things could have been explored more deeply if I went down different roads with some of my responses. Agh. Oh well.
