Bands Pearl Jam has influenced
So I was listening to a local radio station, and they were discussing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees, and whether or not Pearl Jam should be a first ballot contender.
Anyway a big portion of the debate concerned how the Hall of Fame looks at other artists the band has inspired.
I wanted to try and make a list of bands that claim Pearl Jam as a major influence. Not simply bands that mimicked Pearl Jam, but that we can find quotes where a band member was inspired by them directly.
Anyway the first three that came to mind, were The Strokes, Aaron Lewis from Staind, and Adam Levine from Maroon 5.
I think it would be interesting to put together a list of bands or musicians that have directly said they were influenced by Pearl Jam, even if said band or artist sucks.
So have at it, and links to quotes would be great. A cohesive list would be interesting.

Yes Adam Levine loves Pearl Jam. In high school he dressed like early Pearl Jam Eddie Vedder, and in his first band tried to sing like him, before realizing he did not have the right voice for it.Bammer wrote:Maroon 5?

I am sorry I wasted everyones time with the OP.bodysnatcher wrote:1 Direction, Justin Beeber, Nicky Minage

I wanted the general knowledge of various Pearl Jam fans to equate to creating a list of bands influenced by Pearl Jam.
Not that everything has to be taken super seriously, but at some level I thought people would participate.
Maybe I should take a shit on my deck and roll around in my own Doo Doo. I can take a photograph and it would be more in line with most the commentary in this thread.

Re: Bands Pearl Jam has influenced
I felt bad til you capitalized "Doo Doo".
Then I laughed.
But in all honesty, I was thinking about this earlier today from the RnR Hall Of Fame induction thread, and people who would introduce them. Someone brought of the idea of people who were influenced by PJ could introduce them. And I began thinking that PJ have always looked up to their forefathers, and their forefathers have embraced them. And PJ has always been arm-in-arm with some of their contemporaries (Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney). But I honestly don't know of a lot of younger bands that PJ has fully embraced, taking on the roll of mentor. Sure, they've done performances with younger bands... The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Gaslight Anthem, etc. But I haven't seen them necessarily embrace them. PJ tends to hang with bands that are older...
There's a big difference between bands that have been influenced by PJ (countless), and bands that PJ has taken under their wing (not countless)
I dunno, just my perception.

My Doo Doo is sentient, therefore it is only natural to capitalize it.bodysnatcher wrote:I felt bad til you capitalized "Doo Doo".

I appreciate the serious response though.
Kings of Leon is another band that seems influenced by PJ based on some of their comments.

Who didn't back then? It would be easier to make a list of people that were not influenced by PJ/Nirvana/STP/etc.C4lukin wrote:In high school he dressed like early Pearl Jam Eddie Vedder, and in his first band tried to sing like himBammer wrote:Maroon 5?

Re: Bands Pearl Jam has influenced
PJ has influenced countless bands to come along afterward.
Some good, some bad.
Creed's first album was good.

Re: Bands Pearl Jam has influenced
Does your band have or do any of the following?:
- Guitar solo on every song
- Singer who growls/mumbles incoherently into the mic
- Long hair
- Angry songs about the ills of society
- Quieter ballads about bodies of water
- Change drummers more often than the oil in your touring van
- Wear flannel or Doc Martens
- Encourage you not to vote republican
Congrats, you are the next Pearl Jam.

Re: Bands Pearl Jam has influenced
And man it showed when they opened for Pearl Jam at MSG a few years back. I've never seen another successful, professional musical act, smile and freak out at another musical act like that. They seemed over the fucking rainbow to be opening for Pearl Jam. It was pretty awesome.LetMeSleep wrote:Didn't Band Of Horses say they were an influence?

In all seriousness if PJ asked me to open for them I'd be a damn giddy school about it. Probably would faint.

Re: Bands Pearl Jam has influenced
Sure, there are loads of bands that PJ influenced. But which bands have PJ helped along the way? Much like Neil Young did with them
