yes and no. they way it is in the books is pretty good but theres no way it will translate with the same impact if they try to alter it in the film

Maybe Sony is trying to jump on the whole R-Rated superhero film/anti-hero/bad guy(s) as lead craze? Deadpool and Logan are both wildly successful. Suicide Squad made a shit ton of money, too. Maybe Sony feels like they can do a movie that focuses on "the bad guy" like Suicide Squad but in a really violent and edgy way like Deadpool and Logan.

More importantly, Kurtzman is no longer officially attached to direct. That's old news from back before Spider-Man got into his three-way with Sony and Marvel. So, there's that.
