Oh look another ballad will probably advance

Fuck. I think I like these three songs more than any song off of Binaural, No Code, or Riot Act. Not sure how I'm going to vote.

Parachutes. Ah my ovaries are tingling.

I absolutely adore all of these.

Despite it's terrible opening lyric Life Wasted is a beast. One of Mike's best solos, a ferocious performance from Eddie (again, all the more striking given how those were pretty lacking on the two albums that preceded it), a really catchy chorus, and a huge riff that in a weird way reminds me slightly of animal, as filtered through AC/DC. One of the best parts about it are the empty spaces and the way it lets the big notes just hang there.


Comatose was, for a while, a top 5 song for me. It's cooled a bit, but the lyrics are excellent (some of Eddie's best, and a great example of how strong he can be when he doesn't try and overwrite), the performance is absolutely savage, and a great blistering solo from Mike.


Parachutes is alongside Rival, probably my favorite of Pearl Jam's weird songs. I love how airy it feels - like someone floating on a cloud plucking at an oversized guitar. While I think the brickwall production actually works quite well for Comatose and Life Wasted it does murder Parachutes a bit.


I think I'll vote for Life Wasted, but all three of these are just fantastic.

I was wrong earlier. Habit is light years better than Comatose. God, I hate that song.

Parachutes is immaculate. Life Wasted is totally fine but can't compete with Parachutes at all.

Life Wasted is really good.

I like these three songs; kind of like the Can't Keep v. Cropduster v. All or None matchup, I think I'd pick most of these songs against any of the other songs on the record.

Parachutes is the only out-and-out stunner here (it might be the only great song, no strings attached, of all these matchups). Ballad or not, it's a great song, and along with All Those Yesterdays, one of the better examples of PJ's ability to do light-footed pop if they put their mind to it.

Life Wasted and Parachutes are both excellent. If they could hit this mark more often in PRAMG, I'd be way happier. I'm voting for Life Wasted, but would be fine with Parachutes taking it. I docked it because of the heavy Beatles influence.

Comatose is a great backing track with vocals that feel forced to me, like Ed's still trying to prove he's angry sometimes.

Parachutes. My god what a great song. What great stone and mike interplay. They were on fire for these sessions.


Parachutes is just fantastic. Top tier song.

Parachutes, pretty easy vote for me. I do like LW though, and think the shit it gets is a little unjust.

Comatose. Parachutes and LW are good too, but I do love to rawk. I will never understand the hate Comatose and LW both get.

Comatose is pretty good, Life Wasted is good and gets my vote here.

Parachutes is just total excrement.
