I've always liked Amongst the Waves. These other two suck.

Amongst the Waves and it's not even close.

It won't win because you all have terrible taste. But it's CLEARLY Amongst the Waves.

Of the bad bunch UK is the better song.

I really like two of these.

Unthought Known is a bit disappointing. It has that great early build and some really powerful moments, but the song plateaus too early, and still feels a bit too much like a sketch.

Amongst the waves is far too underrated. The verses are excellent, and Stone's guitar work is really interesting - the song has a wet and hazy feel to it that is perfect for the reverie of the verses. The chorus is okay, but it doesn't quite earn the epic feel it is aiming for, and does knock the overall performance down a peg, from great to good.

Gonna See My Friend is a blast. It's the song breakerfall wanted to be. Really fun riff, and in a weird way is sort of like a self-effacing send up of so much of their earlier work. It gets my vote.

Breakerfall is a gagillion times better than GSMF.

But I'll go with Gonna See My Friend. It's nothing to write home about, but it's a fairly fun burst of energy, and Jeff and Matt do some inspired work on it. Their work on the song is one of the few moments on Backspacer where you can feel some fire.

Amongst the Waves and Unthought Known are very different sounding songs, but they have the same problem of feeling like warmed-over retreads of earlier glories. Unthought Known was an early favorite, I remember, but it's sunk like a stone in the years since the album was released.

Im voting for amongst the waves.
Not a favorite or anything but better than these other 2.

GSMF by a country mile.

Amongst the Waves might be one of my least favorite PJ songs in the catalogue. And Unthought Known feels like a baseball player swinging for the fences but hits a pop fly.

I'm actually pretty fond of Amongst the Waves but Gonna See My Friend is easily the best here.

Unthought Known is horrifying.
