Lightning Bolt. I understand it's flaws, and I get why some people don't like it, but I have always enjoyed LB. I hate that the best part of the song gets faded out on the album. BoB should get punched in the dick for that. But LB live is pretty damn good, and that's a lot more than can be said for either of the shit songs against it here.

I agree the best part of L-bolt was cut out in what remains the single worst studio decision in the catalog.

I really like all three of these.

Sleeping By Myself was such a pleasant surprise for how jaunty and brave it is. So many nice moments in it. Mike may be a touch too loud.

Future Days gets an unfair rap. It's pure sentiment, but it owns it, and it's a lovely performance from Eddie.

But L-bolt is my second favorite song on this album (Sleeping By Myself may be third). Another example of a great pearl jam song with an offputting start (see also, Life Wasted and Force of Nature). But this song does a tremendous job feeling like it is constantly building, has that wonderfully cathartic ending, some great solos and accents by Mike, and overall some strong lyrics from Eddie (albeit with a disappointing chorus). I love this song.

Sleeping by Myself and Future Days are lovely songs that I enjoy hearing. Lightning Bolt is... I just don't care for it. It's definitely one of my least favorite on the record, right down at the bottom with Swallowed Whole.

Sleeping By Myself is a little cutesy, but I still think I'd put it at the top of this field. I've bored of Lightning Bolt and Future Days is the worst song this band has ever done.

Sleeping By Myself is one of the few songs from Backspacer and LB that achieves its purpose of delivering a heartwarming sentiment in a fun, poppy package, and one of the few good examples of BOB's touch on the last couple albums.

Future Days is a really nice composition marred by crummy production and a treacly piano intro/outro.

Lightning Bolt is a good concept for a song ruined by a band that doesn't know how to deliver that song any more. Would've been great on Yield.

Future days is....i dont know..... catch me ont he right day ill tell you its great but i never reach for it.

LB is just tired. Been there done that. Trying way too hard to capture epic pearl jam.

Lightning Bolt is much better live (save for the abomination at Wrigley '13).
