I'm kinda torn. The only real reason I'm considering it is JT. Saw Ed solo at the Ryman, have seen the Avett Brothers twice (thanks Mrs. Wease!!

My wife loves Timberlake, and thinks Pearl Jam is stupid. If ever there was a festival for us, it's this.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Yeah same. But only because of the possibility of a duet with Justin Timberlake.B wrote:Hmmmm ... Pondering.

Some new friends of ours are way into the Avett Brothers and are strongly hinting we should all go to this. Goddammit

I'd say it's an even money bet I'll wind up here come show time.

Tennessee got a light years better show than Kentucky. More to come later but shows like tonight are the reason I've followed Pearl Jam for years and years.

Yes, tonight was a much better show, and in fact quite an incredible show. Ed tapped into a deep source of angry energy and shaped/ channeled it with mastery.

Re: 2017-09-23/24: Franklin, Tennessee (Ed Only)
A few notes from the Pilgrimage set:
After opening with the new song from Ohana without the I'm So Tired tag Ed takes a knee in front of his set up. After the usual talk about surrounding towns and Elderly Woman it's immediately obvious that Ed is having an "on" night. Not only is he sober but his vocals and playing is much better than the night before. After Trouble he mentions that living in Seattle they could only have 30 minutes notice of an incoming nuclear missile. He got slightly philosophical, talking about what would you do if you knew you only had 30 minutes left. There were lots of "what the fuck?"s. Playing in a conservative part of the country there were a few "play some songs" type comments but Ed finished his rant and said he would leave it at that. And he did, though he did change the first line of Wishlist to something about being the one in control of nuclear bombs.
I love the Good Woman cover.
Matt Cameron was in town and joined Ed for backing vocals on Just Breathe. Not that he added much to be honestly. He looked kind of awkward on stage to be honest without a drum kit.
Ed started Can't Keep but quickly abandoned it, saying it was too sticky. That seemed to be it for the uke songs but it led to a run of Into the Wild songs. Society was a bit of a surprise with a guest being a kid that Ed met that day, an 11 year old long haired kid named Jack West. He didn't play, just sang and while he was obviously nervous he wasn't bad.
Betterman was electric, despite Ed saying he had planned on playing it "softly". Much better than most of the solo versions I had heard before, similar to the Florence one earlier this year. After Isn't it a Pity an electric uke (the loud uke from previous Ed shows) was brought out and he teased Should I Stay or Should I Go but it quitting, saying it went out of tune. He tried again after Porch and played most of the song. By now he was up against his cut off and finished with Hard Sun. The "Ed-E Ed-E" chant was killed when the promoters came out and thanked everyone for coming.
This is one of those shows that doesn't look like much by the setlist but it was such a wonderful vibe between the crowd and a performer who brought his A game. As mentioned Ed's playing and vocals were elevated beyond just being sober. I was skeptical after the previous night that he wouldn't take this two night run seriously but he more than made up for any doubts. And the setting turned out to be nice too and the audience, at least around me, could not have been better. Last night ranks up there with some of my favorite Ed solo shows.
