What are your picks?

I love Force of nature but it's awful live.

Go for it.

Anything with a signature Jack Irons beat.
What about songs recorded with Matt? Sleight of Hand, All or None, etc.?

My Father's Son
Who You Are (Matt Cameron era)
Got Some (Ed has never gotten the lyrics right)
Satan's Bed

I definitely echo what trag said about the gentler touch songs too

these are still both great live. Their speed transforms them, but the end result is still a regular concert highlight.

I can easily both sides of this argument actually. Depends on the moment. And the moment must not include call and response.

Gonna See My Friend and Getaway have always suffered from being played live in a lower key, they sound really sluggish and leaden compared to the studio versions:

I get where y'all are going with that and I'm firmly on team Jack, but I like a lot of the playing from 1998 and 2000. While Jack's IMT is untouchable, I like it from the 2000 tour. I don't even mind the 2003 rework because I thought it fit Matt's style more.

Additionally, some NC / Yield songs from the 98 tour sound phenomenal. From LO2L alone, DTE, MFC, Red Mosquito, Given To Fly and Off He Goes are great versions.

To counter my own reply, Lukin's drum intro is terrible live with Matt. On NC Jack kicks it off with a this sweet drum intro. Live, Matt does not seem to know what to do.

to be fair, the only good performance ever of Satan's Bed is Atlanta 94...the studio take is a train wreck too

Sleight of Hand has a heavy beat on the record. I'd have to hear a recent version of All or None.

Matt often plays without any touch when he is with PJ now, but this is not his worst offender

the worst part of this performance is the first two verses, because of Ed's absolutely miserable voice and his awful bag of vocal ticks/tricks

Good thread, and lots of good choices already mentioned. I'll say that live versions of SoH have never touched the album version. Evacuation is a good choice. Given to Fly with Matt pretty much sucks, and I love the song. Satan's Bed has never been given its due in a live setting. I can't recall a great live version of Help Help.

I saw them play Help Help and it slayed.
Where/when? I wanna watch it on the UToob.
