I do like Rival a lot. But this isn't even close. That section of Even Flow is one of the greatest moments in their catalog.

Although granted, I call BS on not extending that to 3:52 though. When I say one of the greatest moments in their catalog Im going to the end. WTF! Im extending it to 3:52 I dont care. You're killing one of the best parts.

Yeah, as much as I love it, that itty bit of Rival can't compete with Even Flow (I'm also extending to 3:52).

How did that Rival selection even get in here. Even Flow has such a groovy little solo. If you count the next twenty seconds (which seems more like it's Stone than Mike's solo, but correct me if I'm wrong) it's even better. A great transition into the final verse. Just didn't feel like a solo.

Even Flow wins handily

RIVAL
Somehow matches joy with anguish. The ecstatic playing combined with the hopelessness in the the lyric. Don't forget to turn it up at the very end for that Beatles-esque winding guitar punctuated by piano notes... like pings from the radar of a slowly disappearing ship.

I agree with you, evenslow, in that Rival is the much better song, but going only by these sections of the songs Even Flow pretty easily gets my vote. There are such better parts of Rival that could have been chosen.

By the way, one of you didn't actually vote (stip, mjd, or doone).

I take this as a personal attack/insult, as this is my honorary tournament and I selected everything.

I focused only on two things when choosing - solos and outros - which was the mission statement handed down from professor stip. As the signature says, we should probably just kill stip.

I guess this just means we will have to do yet another tournament where we simply choose the best section of every song and forget about qualifiers. And I love stip, I could never kill him. But I have absolutely no problem punching him in the ball bag a few dozen times.

This would kill him as we all know where stip's true strength resides.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome awesome tournament! I wouldn't even know what to choose. Probably 'somebody else's sky' section from Black, bridge from Corduroy, or the 'hellooo' part of Elderly Woman

That's a good one.

Intro to Dissident, outro to Jeremy, intro to Leash, "Glorified, Glorified", intro to You Are, final verse & chorus of Sleight of Hand...
