My god this was when I was OBSESSED with the band. What a GREAT time for PJ fans! VS was probably the greatest album i have ever bought. It was being talked about everywhere. Vedder was still mysterious. He shortened his hair. 2nd time SNL was fkn amazing. What a tag he put on Daughter. Then they released yet another album 13 months later. VITALOGY. See to me after 1995...no tour. ...Japan......This was the breaking point in them. I remember seeing them Randalls Island 2nd night 1996....BUT THATS A DIFFERENT DISCUSSION FOR THE NEXT ERA


How do you guys and gals feel about this Era? (Had to have been fan then or point is moot)

Amazing moment...Vs is one of my favorite records ever.

I really liked this era, it's when I first started listening to them (and music in general) but I was too young to really attach myself emotionally to the music and/or the band.
It wasn't until the time between vitally and no code that I made that strong connection (and probably why I find the vitalogy->no code->yield run of albums, or "era" to be my favourite)

Exactly my situation. I was with my older brother when he bought Vs. the day it came out, but didn't connect until 1995. Going back and finding 4/3/94 a few years later blew my mind. Although I love all of the shows I've seen, I think April 1994 for Pearl Jam is the pinnacle of rock and roll.

I bought the double cd/singles to that show day it was released. ....think they are in my basement with my vinyl collection (I have every vinyl released by theband. I aactually have 2 copies of each all still sealed)

i still have the cassette my buddy recorded the show on

eddie vedder playing w/ the doors also had a huge effect on me. i dont think i got the boot til 94 or 95, but those 3 songs blew my mind for a while.

They were sick. I think I got them right away. Blew my mind too.
Then after years of dormant came the Internet and the videos reserected how strong they were. Doors LOVED HIM

The amount of times I used to play that Atlanta show...

Vs was what hooked me in. I thought Pj were a god awful cock rock band up to that point. It still embarrasses me some of it. Vs is too class

Well maybe the most interesting period for the band's creative output. Vs felt to me like a collection of really great songs, but not a album. This is when it seems Ed started resisting stardom. It shows on Vs to me it feels a little pushed or shoved. The two songs from Vs that feel really free of all that are Daughter and Leash. I think Leash came more out of the Ten period, and was a Hold over. I think Daughter came from around 92. So Ed on these tracks is more like the Ten version of Ed. Rvm and Ewbtciast show where it is Ed wants to go. So it is a bit as if the car is being driven by three people, Ed, Eddie, and Stone.
Vitalogy is so different this is Ed saying " this is who I am"! I see it almost as a Vedder solo record. In the same way that I look at Who albums as being Pete's work. I LOVE THIS ALBUM! I could go on about this records forever.

Vitalogy is the darker version of VS with amazing lyrics and best EV vocals ever

I will go on a little about Vitalogy. This is one of the greatest examples of what album should be in the history of popular music. Ed should be proud of this. The band should get a peace prize for letting Ed do this. They kinda became Crazy Horse for a moment. Vitalogy to and through Yield is such a wonderful journey of discovery for the band.
