Re: RIP Chris Cornell 1964 - 2017

Radio playing "River of Deceit" with Cornell on vocals. Goddamn.
My thoughts exactly. He looked happier over the last 10 or so years than he ever seemed back in his 20's and 30's. Doesn't make sense (if it was indeed a suicide). As crazy as it sounds, when I heard he was found in the bathroom I actually hoped he had just slipped and banged his head on the sink, or something similar. An inglorious end for sure, but still better than the alternatives. An overdose or suicide really just doesn't seem plausible for CC in 2017.Revelator wrote:I still can't fathom a suicide--there are like no recent signs that would hint to anything of the kind. I mean you never truly know how much depression can take its toll on you, but he's seemed so goddamn happy for years now that I thought he would grow into an old man. 52 is quite simply tragic. Fuck
Well said. He always impressed me with his generous attitude. Another good one gone.Tuolumne wrote:I'm still processing this. He is the Godfather of the Seattle scene as far as I'm concerned. Kurt was from Aberdeen, Staley was a suburbanite, Ed the transplant. Cornell was the true Seattlite and the scene started with him. First band with a Subpop release, first band in the scene on a major label. They were one of the main bands that inspired Nirvana. And, they were the band that pushed the boundaries more than anyone else. As far as Pearl Jam is concerned, he could have EASILY created an antagonistic situation with Ed coming in. He lost his buddy Andy Wood, he could have fucked the whole scene up out of anger and spite, and moreso screwed up the launch of Mookie Blaylockl/Pearl Jam. He was at the first Off Ramp gig. He welcomed Ed in. He's practically a founding member of the band. Can you imagine Pearl Jam without the existence of Chris Cornell? I can't. Jeez.
PLUS, he had an interesting solo career and he was still going strong. He was the spiritual leader of Seattle rock, not the other guys as much.
Not that I'm saying that Cornell went like this. But David Carradine (Kill Bill) accidentally died from auto-erotic asphyxiation....E.H. Yeah, well said Tuolumne.doone wrote:Well said. He always impressed me with his generous attitude. Another good one gone.Tuolumne wrote:I'm still processing this. I'd nominate Toulumne to do this. He posted a pretty perfect summation.stip wrote:If anyone is interested in writing up their thoughts for the main page please let me know. I might write something, stip. Although it won't be KD or stip-level articulate...EJ wrote:I'd nominate Toulumne to do this. If someone thinks I should, I suppose I could expound a little on what I already wrote. I might need a few days and some time I can hopefully find.EJ wrote:I'd nominate Toulumne to do this. Man, this suicide thing is just not registering with me. This isn't 1994. He was in his 50s, wife and 3 kids. Had Soundgarden going for him, a very active and fruitful career, Temple of the Dog. He toured all over last year. Friends and contemporaries that loved and respected him. It just doesn't make sense.

Yes we'd love to hear it. I just wrote something as well, which B may or may not use, but the more the merrier. Love hearing people's thoughts on it.doone wrote:Take your time but give it a shot.Tuolumne wrote:If someone thinks I should, I suppose I could expound a little on what I already wrote.
