I'm super excited. If you took everything I am nerdy about (sixties politics, cinema verite, the Criterion Collection) and combined it into one event, this is what you would come out with:
Metrograph
Criterion Collection Live
From laserdisc to DVD to Blu-ray and the digital beyond, Criterion has remained committed to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and which feature supplemental materials that shine a light on the art of filmmaking. Metrograph is thrilled to team up with Criterion to give you the chance to peek into their process and meet key players involved in their releases. These series of events, hosted by Criterion staff members, feature onstage Q&As with special guests, clips of rare content, audience gifts, and more.
In the early 1960s, at the same time that John F. Kennedy was changing American politics, reporter-filmmaker Robert Drew and his amazing dream team—which also included Richard Leacock, D. A. Pennebaker, and Albert Maysles—were transforming documentary. Criterion’s new set The Kennedy Films of Robert Drew & Associates collects the films in which Drew and his collaborators followed Kennedy, from campaign trail to White House. For Criterion’s inaugural live event, Criterion president Peter Becker will be joined by the legendary Pennebaker; Jill Drew (Robert Drew’s daughter-in-law and Drew Associates’ general manager); journalist Frank Rich; and more to discuss these groundbreaking films, especially relevant in an election year so dominated by the 24-hour news cycle. Admission includes tickets to the discussion, plus rare outtakes; an advance copy of the gift set; drink reception with the speakers; and screenings, including the alternate Richard Leacock cut of Primary (1960); Crisis (1963), documenting the tense standoff between the White House and the segregationist governor of Alabama; and the mournful Faces of November (1964), shot at Kennedy’s funeral.
Is it just me, or does the picture quality of Amazon Instant Video suck compared to other streaming services?

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
