I keep watching videos with people saying Tarantino is a master of dialogue, but is that true? I dunno.

No, it's definitely not. But his movies like to announce that he is, so people believe it.

Sometimes his dialogue is downright tedious.

I'd err on the side of "usually" or "tends to be."

He's really amazing at getting incredible performances out of limited actors, and I think that people mistake that for good dialogue. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I don't think its in the script.

Yeah, I would agree. He's capable of good dialogue and competent writing in general. It's not like he's a total hack or anything. But he's certainly overrated in the writing department.

His dialogue calls attention to itself. That's acutely felt when it's delivered by an actor that's not totally up to snuff, like Tarantino himself. Samuel L. Jackson can really sell some of Tarantino's more gaudy monologues. When Tarantino puts himself in there, he can't sell it nearly as well, so it really stands out that "THIS IS DIALOGUE. SEE IT'S EVEN BEING SAID BY THE GUY WHO WROTE IT. IT'S DIALOGUE." Because other elements of his movies are so good in a more subtle way (while his dialogue is so obviously present), it makes it seem like the dialogue is what makes the movie great.

I've got to be honest, I know I give LV a hard time about Batman v. Superman, and MoS a little too, and I've generally liked the Marvel movies, but I am getting really burned out on superhero movies. I had no real desire to see B v. S, but I did. Now, I have no desire to see Civil War or X-Men, or anything else coming out of either of the universes. I quit watching Flash and Arrow on TV, but still watch SHIELD and Legends of Tomorrow. I don't know, I guess the over saturation is just hitting me and may be making me a little jaded no matter how good the movie may be.

Bring on Independence Day Resurgence I say!

Meh, I've been in a deep-thinking mode lately and appreciate film that tests that for me. I recently watched the director's cut of Blade Runner, and while I've seen it before I'm not sure I appreciated it as much as I do now. That movie affected me this time around. If I knew I wouldn't curl up into a fetal position for a couple of hours afterwards, I'd probably go home and watch The Road.

I enjoyed Star Wars when I saw it in the theater, but have no desire to rush out and watch it again on DVD, and I'm a lifelong fan of all things SW.

Guess I'm just watching too many movies lately, need to be a little pickier for a couple of months.
