SS has to make something like $800 million to break even. I don't understand that if it 'only' cost $175 million to make.

If I remember correctly, Studios make a lot less per ticket on international sales than US, so international vs domestic sales revenues aren't the same.
That and marketing budgets are usually as high if not higher than the production budget. Crazy, but that's how it goes.

That makes sense I guess but SS is another great example of 10/10 marketing for a 3/10 film so what's going wrong?
'THR says the price tag for Suicide Squad was “at least $175 million” and that for the film to be a success, a studio veteran explains, “The movie’s got to do $750 million, $800 million to break even. If they get anywhere close to that, they’ll consider it a win.” That’s a lofty goal, and while the movie is tracking for a huge opening weekend, it will need to have legs to hit that mark.'

Whatever the math, it doesn't seem like a very sustainable business model.

On average a studio needs to double the cost of the movie in sales to break even. That's before marketing

Again they should all look at what deadpool did. Made for peanuts, marketed brilliantly but made about ten times its budget.
Do more with less.

And it was the absolute most faithful to the comics movie that's ever been made.
(Well, that and Sin City.)

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

You'll enjoy it I think. Even if only cos it's totally unlike the previous two.

I goddamn loved the first two, though.
But I do like the idea of the third one being different.

Oh don't get me wrong I loved/liked the first two as well. But this succeeds for me for doing something different. In that it feels like an episode. And one of the episodes that really were great. That's really why I like it and think it works.

Did you like this Star Wars movie more than his other Star Wars movie?
