no and yes, but they are still predators, and being a predator is evil in Zootopia, so they behave like prey (usually). In the movie, they have to deal with stereotypes of being dangerous, but they are dangerous because they are predators, and predators kill things for food (even in this universe, albeit in the past or because of a silly plot device). As a racial parallel it just doesn't work. Earlier drafts made it even more front and center.
It gets very muddled though. Its not very consistent with its logic.
If it's muddy and the logic as it pertains to your interpretation is flawed or inconsistent... then maybe you're interpretation is wrong?
The predator/prey relationship and its parallels with real world race relations are spelled out pretty clearly. And its a major theme of the movie. Its not really something that could be interpreted differently. Its just that they ignore it when it suits them or they can't figure out what to write next.
Interesting. You're actually making me want to see this movie.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. 1. The predators are white people, in which case they must be ashamed of their "whiteness/predatorness" and selflessly sacrifice for the good of the weaker, more noble prey race (which is a fucked up white liberal racist fantasy).
2: (more likely given the events in the movie) The predators are black, and they can live in harmony with the prey so long as they are kept in check, and suppress their natural urges toward violence.
Gross
Or you could choose not to look at it either way. There doesn't have to be a human parallel.
its pretty heavy handed though. To the point of distraction for me.
I'm with LMS. I don't know that the predators are stand ins for any specific ethnicity. It's just about not judging someone based on stereotypes.

He's kinda like Charlize Theron in Arrested Development: So dreamy that you don't notice they have the IQ of a four year old.

Yea, he's made his odd-duck qualities really work for him. Films like Drive and Lars and the Real Girl just wouldn't be the same if he were more lucid or "normal."
And Blue Valentine. He's such a fucking force. Man!

Still haven't seen it. It looks fantastic, but also brutal. Need to steel myself for it some night.
It's 100% worth the ache. Brilliant film.

And I'm guessing, based on our Linklater conversation a while back, it's right up your alley. I think you'll really love it.
