I think the problem with Up is that almost everyone agrees that it’s overlong, but no one can agree what songs should’ve been cut.

I, for one, do not agree that it is overlong. I think it's pretty fucking great as it is. I'd rather listen to any of the songs on UP than any of the songs on Murmur, for example.

I know I'm in the minority on that. I'm sure I'll come around on that early stuff one of these days.

I think this is about where I'm at these days. I used to not care for "You're in the Air" or "The Apologist," but I've grown to really like those songs.

I still think the album could've been a little tighter, but I also agree with dct that it's pretty great as is.

The Apologist is another major highlight of the record, for me. I love that song.

You're in the Air is solid, too. I probably like At My Most Beautiful less than most folks. It's pretty but also an unapologetic Beach Boys ripoff that doesn't always ring my bell. But I still think it's earned its place on the record. Parakeet is probably my least favorite track and the ONE you could convince me to cut. But only if you promised it would still be released as a b-side.

I'm with you there. Not my favorite by any stretch.

Parakeet is probably my least favorite track and the ONE you could convince me to cut. But only if you promised it would still be released as a b-side.

I really like the lyrics of "Parakeet." But I think one other minor change I might make is to put that and/or "Diminished" somewhere else on the record, or at least throw a more uptempo track in between them. I feel like there's one too many downer songs in a row at the end there, even though I like all of them.

Parakeet is great and can't be removed.
