He is very much involved in everything in the movie...from the scrip to the designs of the characters...everything.
I saw the new one and i actually enjoyed it.

Really? Fascinating. Why hire outside directors if he's gonna be so involved, even down to character design? Either way... I don't plan on seeing the movies. Maybe I will eventually. But I certainly won't make any real effort to do so.

Presumably because he doesn't have to be on set daily. He can design the overall look and feel of the movie, watch the dailies from the back of his limo, and make adjustments from wherever it is he goes to pay homage to the dark overlords who have granted him his powers.

An EP credit is usually given to people who bankroll the film, or otherwise support the project without any creative input.
If he were a director, he's be expected to be on location every day, unless he has a gaggle of Second Unit directors doing all the heavy lifting, which is certainly possible but not likely.

But no one wants to direct a movie with no credit. Easier to just hire a director and yell at him from the producer chair.
