I’ll Take the Rain has good bones but the sonic filter of Reveal’s production blunts its impact

it seems like the band definitely had a tendency to "over-bloat" songs/albums during this weird, transitional phase. that's always been my one criticism of up. that album definitely suffered because of two or so songs that should've been cut which would've made the album more concise. that's why i love accelerate -- it gets right to the point and then isn't afraid to move on.

Does Hope make everyone else kind of tear up a little? Such a powerful song. I'd love to hear everyone's interpretation of it. I thought about posting in the catharsis thread about how the chaotic outro buries the lyrics deep inside your brain for the rest of the album, but I decided to post here instead.

Really? Huh... yeah, for me, it's doesn't matter because it's the only song on the record that fucking matters.

"The Ascent of Man" is so good. Another one for the playlist. Gonna throw "Leaving New York" on there too, in fact.

The first half of Reveal is the best of their 21st century albums.

That's absurd considering Accelerate - the only R.E.M. album on which I like the majority of the songs - exists.
